I Am Not Afraid of Swine Flu

That is right. I said it. I think everyone is over reacting about swine flu. Check out the graph. It shows deaths in the last (or semi recent) 300 day period and their causes. Swine Flu ranks right above leprosy. Yes, that is right Leprosy. It ranks under Malaria, TB AND Dengue Fever (yes, I had the Dengue. It wasn't pleasant, but I am alive to tell the tale) in the communicable diseases category. Now I know someone who contracted BOTH Leprosy and Swine Flu and lived. Sure, she didn't get them at the same time... but the moral of the story is the same. All these people freaking out and rushing to get vaccinated and crying because they can't get in for something that kills less people than diarrheoal in a 300 day period. Yes, LESS than the runs people. So please. Take a step back to rationality and realize that the Swine Flu is just another sickness.
In case you are wondering, No, I will not get the Swine Flu vaccine, and no, I will not use Purel every four seconds, and no, I will not die of the Swine Flu, even if I get it. I survived Dengue people, and that kills far more the the Swine Flu.

I hope you don't mind, but I'm totally using this image on my blog.

As I watch the lines of panicked people waiting for their chance at the shot, I have to shake my head.

Thank you! All this fear breeding fear about the stupid swine flu makes me crazy. Normal, healthy people who obsess about it need to go out and get some real problems.

I completely agree with you 100%!!!

I agree that many people are overreacting. Even if I had had the chance to get the vaccine, I probably wouldn't have gotten it anyway. But, I do think that people who get the flu should do everything they can prevent spreading it. It's running rampant through campus right now, largely because kids come to class sick. That's how I got it. If anything good comes of swine flu, I hope it is that people learn basic hygiene and common courtesy.

I am sad to say that I am one of those paranoid people, but in my defense, I am pregnant. I hope that gives me a pass on the paranoia. If I were my normal self I would not be so worried. Can we still be friends? :)

Amen! It's called HYGIENE--washing your hands more than once a day... If you get it, do what you do when you normally get the flu. Puke your guts out and get some sleep and watch hopeless reruns on TV. :)

As a survivor of the Swine Flu (and Leprosy) I feel that I'm an expert. Although at one point I legitimately thought I was going to die (probably the fever I had) -it wasn't that bad. It sucked immensely but the codiene cough syrup really hit the spot. The worst part was the self imposed quarantine.

According to the graph, looks like twinkies are killing more people than Swine Flu. That sounds about right.

Swine flu is a government concoction to distract you from the real plague of the 21st century. White spots on the fingernails. Eliminate the spots and you will eliminate war, famine, pestilence, and Miley Cyrus.
