Another True Love

I grew up in a family that did not eat butter. We had margarine. Two of my brothers have PKU, so margarine was really the better choice. My OTHER brother has a strange aversion to any buttery spread and claims he can 'smell' when the margarine is anywhere near the table... okay... I digress. As a result, I never developed the love of butter that I could have developed along the way.

I ask you, all of you... have you ever TASTED butter? Really tasted butter? It is AMAZING. Thank you, Dr. Merrell for insisting that butter be kept in our apartment. You have given me something I need in the same way that I need bacon. You have opened my eyes to a whole new world, Disney style.

If a recipe has butter as one of its ingredients, you know its going to be good!

On that note, I love these cookies. Just made a huge batch the other day and love every bite! Butter is the only way to go:

I also discovered butter as an adult--we always had margarine growing up. Did you see Julie and Julia? The French also have a love of butter.

Growing up we had margarine and my grandma had butter. I always thought her food tasted better and never knew why until I was an adult. THEN I married a Butter Nazi. Now that's all we have in the house. When he complains about the grocery bill, I point out we could save $2 a box if we bought margarine instead of butter (I don't really WANT to do this, but there are times we are FORCED to play devil's advocate!), he drops the issue immediately. 'Nuff said.

I hope we can still be friends, but I prefer the taste of margarine. But if it makes you feel better my whole family is pro-butter and everyone thinks I am weird.

Thanks for the shout-out! Butter=better. It's true. I'm glad I've had such a positive impact on your life, and on your hips.

Agreed... I made the switch awhile back and while I don't use butter too often (mostly because when I do I go on a binge)... it really is amazing. :)

I stop short of eating a plain stick of the stuff (like my nephew used to do ... ick!), but I definitely agree that butter is amazing.

I grew up in a margarine house too.

I, too, began my love affair with butter well after my childhood. In fact, it wasn't until I graduated from law school that I finally switched to butter (because I could finally afford it). It is my goal and ambition to become a butter connoisseur. Did you know that in most of the world, they do not use sweet cream butter? They use butter made from cultured or soured cream. It is delicious. You should taste it.
